よく「ビジネス英語」という言葉が使われます。
残念ながらカランメソッドのテキストは、「ビジネス英語」という、一見特殊な英語に併せて作成されたものではありません。
しかしながら、一体どんな英語が「ビジネス英語」なのでしょう？
カランメソッドのBOOK3、いわゆる中級レベルのテキストブックに、
| 質問 | If you were a judge, on what kind of criminal would you be most severe? |
|

| 回答 | If I were a judge, the kind of criminal I'd be most severe on would be a murderer. |
このような質問と回答が出てきます。いわゆる仮定法現在形。
この言い回しを頭に焼き付けることができたら、もしあなたが貿易の世界の仕事をしていたら、
| 文例 | "If our company were to buy your product, the point we'd be most severe on would be quality of your product and delivery punctuality." |
この際登場する３つの表現、"buy your product"と、"quality of your product"、さらには"delivery punctuality"、この３つの言葉と、"point"という言葉も使われていますね。
でも良くお考えください。
あなたは毎日毎日、仕事のことで頭が一杯のはずです。その中、「製品を購入する」、「貴社の製品の品質」、「納期の厳守」、こんなことは当たり前の当たり前のこと。英語で交渉をしなければいけないあなたにとって、一番先に頭に浮かんでくる言葉のはずです。
同じくBook3に、
| 質問 | When you have something unpleasant to do, do you delay doing it, or do you do it at once without delay? |
|

| 回答 | When I have something unpleasant to do, I do it at once without delay. |
という質問と回答があります。
同じくBook3に、
| 文例 | "When we have many other orders to deliver, we promise to deliver yours product at once without delay." |
というビジネスの英語にも応用できます。
ちょっと高度に言えば、
| 文例 | "When we have many other orders to deliver, we will prioritize your delivery over others." |
などどいう言い方もできますが、こんな言い方は咄嗟には出てきませんよね。たとえビジネスの世界でも、口語では、最初の言い回しで充分な筈です。
カランのテキストを見ると、残念ながらこの、"PRIORITY"や"PRIORITIZE"という単語は登場しません。何故ならカランメソッドのテキストは、ビジネスでも、医療の現場でも、教育の現場でも、どこでも困らない必要最低限の言い回しを網羅することを目的に作られているからです。まずは基本的な言い回しをしっかり勉強し、その上で、高度な言い回しや単語を増やしていく、そのための基礎作りがカランメソッドであり、ビジネス英語の基礎作りの場だとご理解ください。
もうひとつ、カランメソッドテキスト、Book5に出てくる例文を参考にしてみましょう。
| 質問 | If you are unable to work out a ploblem at work, who do you turn to? |

またBook 6（上級レベル）になりますと、必ずしも質問と回答といった方式での授業展開ではなくなり、単独の文章が展開されます。たとえば、

| 文例 | "The company's overseas trade has grown quite considerably over the last few years, due to the improvement in quality of its manufactured goods." |
| 文例 | "I hope to receive a favourable reply to my letter, so that I can go ahead with my plan." |
| 文例 | "On behalf of the team, I would like to thank the club for giving us such an excellent dinner." |
